Since 2011 E.L.James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey has been read around the world, time and time again, by people from all walks of life. It has sparked many ‘naughty’ debates in staff rooms and mischievous gossip around neighbourhoods. Whether you love it, or hate it, Fifty Shades of Grey is here to stay and is a huge seller. The novel and its two sequels have sold over seventy million copies world wide. Naturally, with every popular novel, it begs the question. When will the film be released?

Fifty Shades of Grey has been in development now for one year with producer’s Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca spear heading the charge. Finally; a director has been announced. Sam Taylor Johnson, formerly known as Sam Taylor Wood and director of 2009’s Nowhere Boy has accepted the responsibility.

No other details have been released but this has sparked rumours that husband Aaron Taylor Johnson, of Kick Ass, might be cast in the lead role as Mr Christian Grey himself.

Producer Michael De Luca gave this statement: “Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life. EL James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit.”
