With Despicable Me 2 just around the corner, and one of the most anticipated movies of summer 2013, we were lucky enough to have a quick chat with Moisés Arias (Hannah Montana) about his role in this sequel to the 2010 animated film Despicable Me.

Can you tell us about your character in Despicable Me 2?
I play Antonio, Margo’s first ever love interest. Margo’s the oldest of the three girls, remember? Antonio’s a real bad boy and Gru doesn’t approve of this at all!

Why did you choose to do this film?
I really wanted to be part of a this movie – it’s fantastic, funny and original, with a fabulous cast and a genuinely unusual story. And of course the first film was hilarious and really different.

Was getting the part for such a huge film a long process?
Yes, I went in and did my best Hispanic accent and then I almost forgot about it – animations take such a long time to develop. But when I heard I got the part I was really excited.

How is working in animation different from live-action?
It’s completely different. For a start, when you’re doing an animated film you don’t have to worry about costumes! Also there’s no table read, you don’t see the rest of the cast, it’s a totally different process. Plus with animation you have to be comfortable making loads of weird vocal noises like ‘AARGGH!’ or ‘UHHHHRGH!’ and just not be embarrassed about it…

Do you ever find it daunting being in these huge films or does it seem natural?
It doesn’t phase me – I just find it exciting. I’ve done these huge films and then gone back down to smaller ones, so it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Can you tell us about ‘Enders Game’ and your role in that?
I play a very menacing character and people might not be expecting that from me, which is one of the reasons I did it. On set, the extras were a bit scared of me.

Scared of you??
Yeah they didn’t say a word to me! Because I stayed in character the whole time, and I was playing a really intimidating guy. It’s hard to goof around and then going back to playing that sort of part, so I stayed in the same headspace for the entire film. It was a fantastic experience.

Look out for Moisés in Despicable Me 2 and Harrison Ford’s next big movie, Enders Game. Many thanks to Moisés for talking to us.

We’ll leave you with the Despicable Me 2 Trailer. Despicable Me 2 Out in UK cinemas 28th June.
